Kim
I was introduced to Peter by a friend as I was trying to decide whether to sell or renovate my family home. I live about 500 miles from Toronto and I want to retire here, but had a lot of concerns about moving forward with such a major renovation when not physically available on a day-to-day basis. The project could have gone south quickly!
Peter showed me several houses he was working on and I had the opportunity to talk to his clients about how the work was going. We talked about the scope of work, timing, and how we could manage the project from a distance.
It was a major project, for me anyway! A small Toronto bungalow built in the fifties, purchased new by my grandparents. I had updated the bathrooms about 10 years ago and that had not gone well from a distance.
Everything needed to be updated – roof, eavestroughs, siding, drainage, garage, windows, interior and exterior doors, flooring, kitchen, lighting, electrical, plumbing, all trim, front and back deck, stairs and walkways. I wanted a finished basement. The whole main floor needed to be gutted, just the walls left standing. I was nervous.
I decided to take the risk and move forward with the renovation. I’m thrilled with the results. The quality of the workmanship is superb, the details exceeding my expectations. My ‘new’ house is solid and beautiful, and I’m so thankful to Peter and his team.
We managed the project by my coming up periodically, usually on long weekends, to select finishes and make decisions. I appreciated Peter’s willingness to meet on the weekend as that was the only time I had free. I was traveling a lot for work, in fact had just moved to a new city. We stayed in touch by phone, text, and e-mail, sending pictures and reviewing finishes at stores we had in common. Calls were always returned promptly, weekends and evenings included!
I made changes to our initial contract, waterproofing the foundation (I feared I would need to do that) and deciding to install central heat and air while the ceiling was open. These additions to the project could have caused substantial rework and cost, but because of the great communication we were able to fit them in seamlessly with the ongoing work. Peter let me know that if I wanted to add the a/c, I’d need to let him know by x so as not to disrupt ongoing work. The team work was good.
Peter had someone onsite every day and the jobsite was always clean – my neighbours had no complaints!
Peter also helped me to achieve the look I visualized. Translating an idea into practice can be difficult when it’s not something you do every day. His advice was valuable and appreciated.
I’m glad I took the risk and would highly recommend Peter and his team to anyone seeking quality work.
Thanks for your hard work and dedication to quality, Kim
